From the bee-architects one can learn how to design and build in the most functional and economic way: the honeycombs provide both living space for the bees and storage chambers for their product. They are composed of hexagons. The other possibility might have been to build them of cubes or cylinders. But cubes, though economical, have the disadvantage of sharp corners and the composition of round cylinders would have been non-functional because of the left-over interspaces. The solution of hexagons was for the bees the most spacious, comfortable and economic - an architectural lesson for the builder.
