Out-patient clinic of the Labour Federation Sick Fund.
The building plot on which the
clinic was erected, is one a slight incline along the main street, and therefore the lower parts of the ground-floor were designed to contain stores, workshops, mechanical equipment and central supply, whereas the higher parts of the ground-floor contain the occupational therapy department and physiotherapy with direct access from the street. The upper ground-floor is connected with the street via a ramp and steps and contains admission, administration, pharmacy and X-ray department and the first-aid station.
The various clinic rooms and laboratories are housed in the upper storey.
To provide a loose 'breathing' plan, the clinics were designed with their surrounding waiting rooms opening up onto inner patios. The ground plan features an almost centrally situated core, containing staircase, lists and utility rooms, and surrounded on two sides by open patio courtyards. The natural sea breeze flows through the sun-protected window-belts into the building, penetrates into the inner rooms provided with louvered doors, and continues into the waiting rooms and the adjoining courtyards, in which the air is sucked up vertically. Functionally as well as architecturally, we tried to create a relaxing environment for the patients, with their waiting and rest-rooms around the open patios, and their clinics separated by deep sun-protecting window-belts from outside.
