During the War of Independence, a national planning board was set up in the Prime Minister's office. The main aim was to direct the new immigrants into twenty new towns in various regions, in different parts of the country. Layouts for the different regions and masterplans for the new towns were prepared. The main features of national planning such as the location of ports, road networks, national parks and nature reserves, were determined. Posters explaining the planning policy were shown in an exhibition, Tel Aviv Museum 1950.
